Sports & Dance Medicine Program
Crescent City Physical Therapy (CCPT) offers a sports medicine program designed to provide comprehensive physical therapy services to athletes of all ages and stages. We assist athletes (whether weekend, recreational or professional) in maximizing their rehabilitation and training for optimal fitness and performance.
The primary focus of our program is injury prevention and rapid treatment intervention once an injury has occurred.
Our staff is available for evaluation and treatment of injured athletes both on and off campus. The sports medicine program is available to help high school and other athletes participate safely in sports and to assist in the management of injuries when they do occur to promote safe and quick return to competition. Specific problems that we regularly treat relate to knee, hip and shoulder injuries along with many types of foot and ankle injuries. Owner, Virginia Davis, PT, MA has been active in the running community and has prepared the Crescent City Classic 10k Training Schedule each year for over 30 years. She has rehabilitated some of the fastest, and slowest, runners in the Greater New Orleans region along with national superstars who have come to New Orleans for Gini's custom orthotics and advice regarding treatment of persistent problems.
Athletes may be referred by their physician to physical therapy for care of acute and chronic injuries. Our physical therapists have extensive background in the orthopaedic evaluation and treatment of athletic injuries and work closely with physicians for the rapid resolution of problems that limit physical activity in order to promote return to recreation or competition. CCPT therapists may utilize specialized treatment techniques such as ASTYM and Pilates based rehabilitation to help athletes return to "action" faster along with more traditional approaches of therapeutic exercise and functional activities. Foot orthotics may also be fabricated in our clinics for patients who may require this type of support and/or shock attenuation either for the relief of symptoms for rest and healing or for return to their favored activities.
DANCE Medicine is another part of our Sports Medicine Program. Again, Virginia Davis, with her background and specialization in foot/ankle and lower extremity function and dysfunction, has been treating dancers' injuries for over 30 years. Like other athletes, dancers suffer from many overuse injuries along with problems related to falls, fractures, dislocations, and tendon injury. These patients require a specific evaluation and treatment expertise not readily available in New Orleans. Our patients are greatful for our expertise, qualifications and associations both locally and nationally. Virginia participates in a number of national foot & ankle orthopaedic study groups. She continually advances her Dance Rehabiliation expertise. Virginia is a graduate of New York University's Harkness Center for Dance Injuries' continuing education curriculum and is currently this institution's exclusive authorized provider in Louisiana and Mississippi.
